EMDR Therapy to Suit Your Lifestyle:

Telehealth Care for Trauma-Related and Other Distressing Life Experiences.

Have you heard about the powerful, evidence-based, and WHO-endorsed treatment for trauma, anxiety, depression, and more?

Are you eager to try EMDR but overwhelmed by the thought of finding the time and energy to make it into a mental health practice for a face-to-face appointment?

We now offer EMDR online as a telehealth service, accessible to anyone, Australia wide.

Perhaps you live rurally. Maybe you have a busy and inflexible work schedule. You might have to care for young children or elderly parents. It’s possible that you experience anxiety about entering new environments.

Whatever your reason, virtual therapy with our mental health professionals could be your answer. More and more people are turning to telemedicine appointments via Zoom for convenience and comfort. You can too.

Why Online EMDR Therapy Can Benefit You

Stress free

Attending appointments can require a lot of mental and physical energy. For many of us, we need to juggle schedules, find carers for dependent family members, commute to unfamiliar parts of town, battle peak hour traffic and pay for expensive parking. When you book an appointment with Create Balance for EMDR telehealth, you just need to open your computer and we will come to you via our virtual sessions.

Comfortable

With online EMDR therapy, you can engage in trauma treatment from the comfort of your own home. You can engage in virtual EMDR while feeling cosy on your couch, safe and secure in your bed or fresh and nurtured in your garden. You can have your cat purring at your feet. You can wear what you like – even your pyjamas if that’s what you find the most comfortable!

Time saving

Life is busy. Time is precious. And attending appointments face-to-face can be time consuming. When you engage in online therapy, you don’t need to waste time travelling to a distant location, circling endlessly to find a car park or navigating delayed public transport services. You don’t need to allow buffer time before the appointment, ‘just in case’ something goes wrong. With virtual appointments, you can spend your precious time before appointments hanging out washing, sending a few texts, eating lunch or better yet – relaxing with a cup of tea.

What Does Online EMDR Therapy Involve?

EMDR involves bilateral stimulation to tax the working memory and correctly process traumatic memories, thoughts and feelings. Often this is achieved by an EMDR trained therapist moving their finger side to side to guide eye movements. Our EMDR sessions online can achieve the same outcomes as face-to-face sessions, by using specialised digital EMDR tools. The digital dual attention stimulus utilises moving displays of light and/or images and will be carefully controlled by your therapist, providing you with tailored and attentive care.

While EMDR therapy centres on bilateral stimulation, it is much more than that. The therapy is an eight-phase comprehensive process. Eight phases may sound like a lot but there is potential to feel significantly better in a very short amount of time. Even so, it is necessary that you finish all phases. They will be reconsidered at different times during your EMDR therapy, after evaluating the progress and status of your mental health distress. The duration of treatment differs for everyone based on their requirements; how complicated their issues are, their mental and emotional readiness and even their personality type. One client might only need a few minutes to complete all eight EMDR phases, whereas another might need several weeks.

Your therapeutic progress will be no different for virtual EMDR sessions compared to in-person sessions. Research has established that clients undertaking EMDR via telehealth are not disadvantaged in achieving their desired outcomes.

Improved Outcomes for Clients (and Therapists)

EMDR is an essential tool for anyone wanting to overcome trauma and poor mental wellbeing and to achieve emotional safety.

One of our EMDR mental health care providers shared his very first experience of EMDR therapy. Once experiencing the life changing effects, he went on to undertake training in the therapy. He now offers EMDR through our online platform to allow others to experience the same relief.

Years ago, I had a snowboard accident which caused severe whiplash and resulted in a bulging disc in my neck. This caused much pain for me, particularly when I first started getting the nerve pain and headaches. The pain would come and go, however what remained was the anxiety of when the next bit of pain would return. After almost two years of trying to find relief from anxiety of the pain, I thought why not try EMDR.

EMDR involves you as the participant to follow the therapist’s instruction, resulting in rapid eye movements, which helps desensitise the negative memory. After having a session with the therapist addressing my anxiety around the pain, a funny thing happened. The image of pain started to fade away. This is amazing, since before this, it felt as though the pain was quite real, even though I wasn’t in any immediate pain. From the therapist assisting me to follow his rapid eye movements, I no longer feel drawn to worrying about the thought of pain.
